Fennville ‘Tuesdays in the Park’ Concert Series
Posted: Jun 7, 2011

The Ninth Annual Fennville “Tuesdays in the Park” free community concert series begins on June 14 with one of Michigan’s favorite jazz and folk singers Claudia Schmidt and her band the Funtet. The concert will be held at Memorial/Paradise Park on north Maple ST, downtown Fennville. Music begins at 7PM. In case of inclement weather the concert will be held in the lower level of the Fennville District Library.

Claudia Schmidt has toured across North America and Europe, playing for intimate clubs and theaters, and festival stages with 25,000 rapt listeners. She is familiar with the mediums of radio and TV, including regular stints on Public Radio International's “A Prairie Home Companion”. Host Garrison Keillor says, “When Claudia sings a song, it stays sung.”

She has recorded fourteen albums exploring folk, blues, and jazz idioms. While Claudia’s musical roots have been in the folk genre, she continues to explore her love of Jazz by way of her musical partnership with the Funtet which includes Don Julin on mandolin, Ron Getz on guitar, Jack Dryden on bass and Randy Marsh on drums and harmonica.

The result is something original and exciting, as displayed on her most recent CD with the Funtet called ‘Promising Sky’ (which won a Jammie at the 2011 WYCE music awards for best female artist).

Free to the public the concerts are sponsored by the following businesses; Alexander’s Drug Store, Allegan Community Federal Credit Union, Allegan County News, Birds Eye Foods LLC, Charles P.
